When a close friend gives young Darwin Robinson a ticket to go to see Boyz2Gurlz, a UK version of a world famous lady boy troupe, he has no idea what he is about to get into.
From going to watch a show Darwin suddenly finds himself starring in it, dressed as a stunning showgirl, as he is lured on to the stage by the delightful and delectable Cassie, and then subsequently christened Dawn by the maternal and matriarchal Kendra, leader and founder of Boyz2Gurlz.
Offered the chance to join the troupe and become one of the Gurlz, to replace Cassie who is leaving to get married, Darwin jumps at the opportunity. Without really thinking about it too deeply. A lack of thought that leads him to a huge country house outside Birmingham where the Gurlz live and play and practise their craft.
From the day he arrives Darwin is steeped in femininity, as he is trained and guided into being a Gurl. And all the other Gurlz are on hand to help steer him, as he gradually and willingly becomes Dawn, a beautiful and incredibly sexy young performer. A true member of the troupe.
But there is a problem. Dawn doesn’t know who she is, and gradually confusion enters her life as she struggles to understand where she fits, or even how she fits. And mixed up in it all is Alex. Her friend, the man with the ticket who started it all, who grows from being that close friend, to being the man who loves her. Dawn becomes increasingly torn between her desire to be a successful Gurl and the alarming, but strangely enticing, feelings that she develops for Alex.
As she struggles both to find her place, and to make sense of her relationship with Alex, her confusion escalates until, after an evening in his flat and in his arms, Dawn rushes home where Kendra helps her to finally understand who and what she truly is. An event for Dawn that culminates in a literally mind shattering realisation.

Era of a New Dawn (Boyz2Gurlz) by Dawn Marie is a very accurately described and readable tale. It’s about a young man with secret cross dressing proclivities and very little direction to his life. Our protagonist receives a ticket to attend a female impersonator stage show. He soon learns that whoever got him there had something else in mind. His presence at this event turns out to be a set up as he is "identified" as a potential guest drag performer and virtually goaded to go on stage "en femme." Behind the scenes and under the skillful guidance of a crew of talented makeover artists, he is quickly transformed into an authentic looking showgirl. What he doesn't know, but will soon find out is that his secret feminine yearnings were known all along to this top-notch troupe of drag performers. It turns out that one of these players is about to have a sex change operation and because of this, can no longer be considered a bonafide member of the group. Our unwitting protagonist Darwin has been "selected" because of his feminine characteristics since the contract of the “about-to-be-changed” performer calls for her to replace herself if she no longer has her original parts intact. Will Darwin agree to journey down this path and join the troupe and does he have what it takes to become a top notch drag entertainer? And if he goes this route, how far will it take him? A Lovely story of self discovery and growth to become what he/she chooses with a little help from those on the same journey.
After reading Who's Sully Now I just had to get the back story in Era of a New Dawn. I'm glad I did, it is a wonderful story.
Yes this is a Transgender story but is more about personal growth and leaving rejection of a family behind while gaining a new extended family that provides real support. There is a little implied sex but that isn't a major factor only an aside to reality in the whole picture.
One thing that stood out to me in this story was the training involved to become more Feminine i.e. a Gurl. The efforts to present as a female went well beyond what most genetic girls and women today make any effort to become. Thus it is understandable, to me, why so many boys and men actually appreciate the Gurlz that do make the effort.
The Gurlz in this story and in some real world groups of T-Girls present as Ladies, not Feminists as too many so called women do today. That realization has to be a comment on the state of society that has rejected femininity as a virtue on the other side of the pond anyway.
Yes there are a lot of physical changes or modifications featured in Boyz2Gurlz books 1 & 2 but the key that is highlighted is the mental adjustments and effort needed to become Feminine in presentation as well as actuality, not a Drag Queen.
Well done Dawn and hugs for the effort.

And not. The troupe is just a backdrop for a love story. Filled with enjoyable characters and the burgeoning awareness within Darwin that he is something more. How much more you'll find out as you read his/her story. The first of three books in this series.
I have been needing a new story for a long time that causes me to want to go back and re-read it again and again, and Dawn Marie's "Era of a New Dawn" fits the bill. I absolutely loved it...
It is probably the sweetest story of someone finding out who they truly are that I have ever read.
All the characters are well developed, and you instantly grow an attachment to Darwin, Kendra, Cassie, and Alex as the story goes.
I hope this is not the only book Dawn Marie publishes, and she continues the story either by telling us the story of the next Boyz2Gurlz Gurl, or maybe a prelude and tell us Cassie's Story.
